Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-Ufuq al-A‘lā (ٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ): The highest horizon or the uppermost edge of the sky, specifically the eastern horizon where the sun rises.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse refers to the angel Jibril (Gabriel), peace be upon him, who appeared to Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, in his true, majestic form. The "highest horizon" is the eastern sky at sunrise—a place of immense height and grandeur, visible to the eye yet beyond human reach. It was here that Jibril, the mighty and trustworthy messenger of Allah, manifested himself to the Prophet in his real angelic appearance, not in the human form he often took when delivering revelation. This moment marked a profound encounter between the celestial and the earthly, as the Prophet witnessed the awe-inspiring reality of the angelic realm. The verse follows the description of Jibril as one of intense power and perfect beauty, emphasizing that this was no ordinary sight but a divine spectacle that affirmed the truth of the revelation. The Prophet’s heart did not deny what his eyes saw—his vision was true, and his soul was steadfast, for Allah had prepared him for this sacred moment.

Da‘wah Reflection:

Beloved reader, ponder the greatness of this scene: the Creator of the heavens and the earth, in His infinite mercy, chose to communicate with humanity through His noblest angel, sending him down to the highest horizon to deliver His final message. This verse invites you to reflect on the honor bestowed upon the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and upon all of humanity—that Allah did not leave us without guidance, but sent us a clear, untainted revelation through a trustworthy messenger. The fact that Jibril appeared in his true form at the highest horizon reminds us of the majesty of the unseen world that surrounds us, a world that is real and waiting for those who seek the truth. Let this inspire you to open your heart to the Qur’an, for it is the very words that Jibril brought down from that lofty place. Every verse you recite is a link to that divine encounter—a treasure beyond compare. Embrace it, and let it elevate your soul to the highest horizons of faith and righteousness.
