Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- حاصِبًا (Hasiban): A violent wind that pelts with stones and pebbles.
- آلَ لُوطٍ (Aal Lut): The family and followers of Prophet Lut (Lot), peace be upon him.
- بِسَحَرٍ (Bisahar): In the last part of the night, just before dawn.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah Almighty informs us of His decisive punishment upon the wicked people of Prophet Lut, peace be upon him. They had transgressed all bounds, committing abominable acts that had never been seen before in creation. So Allah sent upon them a devastating storm of stones — a rain of hard, scorching pebbles that destroyed them utterly, leaving no trace of their corruption.
Yet, in the midst of this overwhelming wrath, there shines a beacon of divine mercy: the household of Lut. Allah singled them out for salvation, sparing them from the torment that engulfed their people. They were taken out safely in the deep darkness of the last part of the night — a time of stillness when the world sleeps, and when the sincere servants of Allah find His hidden care. This timing itself is a lesson: relief often comes in the quietest hours, when human hope seems faintest, Allah’s power is at its most evident.
This verse carries a profound message for every believer: no matter how widespread evil becomes, Allah never abandons His righteous servants. He knows who truly believes, who strives in His cause, and who remains patient in the face of a corrupt society. Just as He saved Lut and his family from the storm, He will save His sincere worshippers from every trial — whether in this world or in the Hereafter.
And note the beautiful sequence: the punishment came as a result of persistent sin, but salvation came as a result of faith and gratitude. Allah says elsewhere that He rewards those who are thankful. So let this verse inspire you to hold firm to your faith even when surrounded by wrongdoing. Do not despair of Allah’s mercy, and do not doubt His justice. He is Al-Lateef (The Most Kind), who reaches out to His servants in their most vulnerable moments, and Al-Qawi (The All-Powerful), who brings down the arrogant in an instant.
The lesson is clear: cling to Allah, and He will never let you fall. Be among those who are saved, not among those who are destroyed. And remember, the night is darkest just before dawn — but for the believers, the dawn of Allah’s help is always near.
