Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • آيَاتِنَا (Our Signs): The clear proofs, miracles, and evidences sent to Pharaoh and his people.
  • أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ (Seizure of the Almighty): A punishment executed with absolute power and dominance, leaving no room for escape or resistance.
  • مُقْتَدِرٍ (All-Powerful): The One who has complete capability and authority to do whatever He wills, with nothing beyond His reach.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse refers to Pharaoh and his people, who rejected every single sign and miracle that Allah sent to them through His prophets—particularly Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him. These signs included the staff turning into a serpent, the shining hand, the flood, the locusts, the lice, the frogs, the blood, and the parting of the sea. Despite witnessing these undeniable proofs of Allah’s Oneness and the truth of His messengers, they persisted in denial and arrogance.

Because of their stubborn rejection of all these clear evidences, Allah seized them with a punishment that was decisive and overwhelming. It was the punishment of the Almighty—the One whose power cannot be challenged, whose might cannot be overcome, and whose decree cannot be resisted. He took them in a manner that demonstrated His absolute sovereignty and His perfect ability to exact justice upon those who transgress.

This serves as a profound lesson for humanity: no matter how powerful or arrogant a person or nation may become, they are utterly helpless before the might of Allah. When He decides to punish, no force in the heavens or the earth can shield anyone from His wrath.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse carries a timeless warning and an invitation to reflect. How often do we witness signs of Allah around us—in the beauty of creation, in the precision of the universe, in the answers to our prayers—yet we turn away? The fate of Pharaoh is a reminder that rejecting Allah’s signs is not merely an intellectual error; it is a spiritual disease that leads to ruin.

But the same verse also whispers a message of hope: Allah is *Mighty* and *All-Powerful*, and His power is exercised with perfect wisdom. For those who submit to Him, this power becomes a source of protection and comfort. The Almighty who punished the tyrants is the same Almighty who supports the believers, answers their calls, and grants them victory. So let us open our hearts to His signs, embrace His guidance, and never allow arrogance or negligence to distance us from His mercy. For the One who holds all power is also the Most Merciful to those who turn to Him in sincerity.

📜 Verse 40-44 — Al-Qamar

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?
41وَلَقَدْ جَاءَ آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ النُّذُرُ
And there certainly came to the people of Pharaoh warning.
42كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ
They denied Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with a seizure of one Exalted in Might and Perfect in Ability.
43أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُولَٰئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَاءَةٌ فِي الزُّبُرِ
Are your disbelievers better than those [former ones], or have you immunity in the scripture?
44أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ
Or do they say, "We are an assembly supporting [each other]"?
