Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-Zubur (الزُّبُر): The written records or books, specifically the books of deeds kept by the recording angels (al-Ḥafazah), in which every action of every human being is inscribed.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse serves as a profound reminder of divine accountability and the comprehensive nature of Allah’s justice. It declares that every single deed performed by human beings—whether good or evil, major or minor, apparent or hidden—has been recorded in the books kept by the noble angels appointed by Allah. Nothing escapes this record; no word spoken, no step taken, no thought acted upon is ever lost. The verse follows a series of warnings to the disbelievers about the consequences of their actions, and it reassures the believers that their efforts are not in vain.

The phrase "every thing they did" refers to all actions of the servants of Allah, from the beginning of time to its end. These deeds are inscribed in the "Zubur," the scrolls and books of the recording angels, which will be presented on the Day of Judgment as an unerring testimony. This is not a mere metaphor but a literal truth established by divine decree, ensuring that absolute justice will prevail. No one can claim ignorance, and no one can deny their deeds, for the records are perfect and complete.

Da'wah Message:

This verse instills in the believer a profound sense of mindfulness (taqwa) and hope. It teaches us that our lives are not random or meaningless—every moment carries weight and purpose. For the one who strives in goodness, this is a source of immense comfort: your charity, your patience, your kindness, and your prayers are all being recorded, and Allah will reward you in full. For the one who has fallen into sin, it is a call to repentance before the records are sealed—turn back to Allah, for His mercy is vast, and He forgives all sins for those who sincerely seek His forgiveness. Let this verse awaken in your heart the beautiful reality that you are never alone; your Lord sees all, knows all, and has prepared for you a reward beyond imagination if you live for His pleasure. Embrace this truth, and let it transform your daily life into an act of worship, knowing that every good deed you do is a treasure stored for you in the Hereafter.

And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.
51وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
And We have already destroyed your kinds, so is there any who will remember?
