📖 English Meaning
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
📜

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Ālā’ (آلاء): The countless blessings, favors, and bounties of Allah.
  • Tukadhdhibān (تُكَذِّبَانِ): You both deny or reject — addressed to the dual form, referring to mankind and jinn together.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse is a recurring refrain throughout Surah Ar-Rahman, repeated to awaken the conscience of both humans and jinn. Allah asks: "So which of the blessings of your Lord do you both deny?" It is a rhetorical question that leaves no room for evasion. The blessings of Allah are innumerable — the creation of the heavens and the earth, the sun and the moon, the seas and the rivers, the fruits and the grains, the very breath in your lungs, and the guidance of the Qur’an itself. Yet despite all this, how can anyone turn away and claim these favors are not from Allah? The question is not seeking an answer; it is a challenge that silences every excuse. Every time this verse is recited, it calls upon you to reflect: which blessing will you deny? Is it your sight, your hearing, your intellect, or the very life you live? Each blessing is a proof of His mercy, and each denial is an act of ingratitude that no logic can justify.

A Da‘wah Reflection:

Dear reader, pause for a moment and count the blessings around you — the air you breathe without cost, the water that quenches your thirst, the food that sustains your body, the love in your heart, and the faith that guides your soul. Every single one of these is a gift from your Lord, given freely out of His infinite mercy. He does not ask for repayment; He only asks that you acknowledge Him and be grateful. The Qur’an is the greatest of all blessings — a book that guides you to peace in this life and eternal happiness in the next. So open your heart to this truth, and let your tongue answer this divine question with humility: "We believe, O Lord, and we thank You for every blessing. We do not deny any of Your favors." This is the path to true success — to live a life of gratitude, worship, and love for the One who has given you everything. Embrace Islam wholeheartedly, for it is the key to unlocking the full meaning of these blessings and the ultimate joy of meeting your Lord in Paradise.
