Surah Al-Waqi'ah — Verse 53

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues the vivid description of the punishment awaiting those who denied the truth and strayed from the path of guidance. After mentioning that the misguided deniers will eat from the tree of Zaqqum — a tree of the most bitter and foul nature, growing from the depths of Hellfire — Allah states that they will fill their bellies with it. This is not out of any desire for it, but because of the extreme, unbearable hunger that will torment them in the Hereafter. Their hunger will be so intense that they will consume this repulsive, bitter food to the point of filling their stomachs completely, seeking any relief from the pangs of starvation. This imagery serves as a stark contrast to the pleasures of Paradise, where the righteous will eat and drink in abundance without any pain or discomfort.
