Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Tabaaraka (تَبَارَكَ): Blessed, exalted, and abundant in goodness; a term indicating that Allah’s blessings, mercy, and grace are immense and ever-flowing.
  • Bi yadihi (بِيَدِهِ): In His Hand — a reference to Allah’s absolute power and control, befitting His majesty without any resemblance to creation.
  • Al-Mulk (الْمُلْكُ): The Kingdom, Sovereignty, and absolute dominion over all that exists — the heavens, the earth, and everything between them.
  • Qadeer (قَدِيرٌ): All-Powerful, capable of doing all things without any limitation or obstacle.

The Interpretation of the Verse:

Allah begins this blessed surah by glorifying Himself, saying: *"Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion, and He is over all things competent."* This opening verse establishes the foundation of faith: that Allah alone is the Owner and Sovereign of the entire universe. His sovereignty encompasses both this worldly life and the Hereafter — nothing escapes His command, and His decree is executed over all creation. The word *tabaaraka* conveys the idea of infinite, overflowing goodness and blessing — a reminder that every blessing we enjoy, from the air we breathe to the guidance we receive, flows from His boundless mercy.

The phrase *"in His Hand is the dominion"* affirms that all power, authority, and control rest solely with Allah. He is the King who does whatever He wills, and no one can overturn His judgment or question His actions. This also establishes the divine attribute of the "Hand" in a manner that befits His glory, without any resemblance to human attributes.

The verse concludes with *"and He is over all things competent"* — a comprehensive statement of His perfect power. Nothing is too great or too small for Him; He creates, sustains, destroys, resurrects, forgives, and punishes with absolute ease. This is a source of immense comfort for the believer: the One who controls everything is also the Most Merciful and the Most Just.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse invites every soul to pause and reflect: Who truly governs this vast universe? Who controls the beating of your heart, the rising of the sun, and the turning of the seasons? It is Allah — the Blessed, the Exalted. When you recognize that His Hand holds all dominion, your heart finds peace, for you know that your affairs are in the care of the Best of Managers. This verse also calls you to humility: no matter how powerful you become, your power is borrowed and limited, while His power is absolute and eternal. So turn to Him in gratitude, submit to His will, and seek His help in all matters — for the One who holds the kingdom is certainly capable of answering your prayers and granting you success in this life and the next. Let this verse be a daily reminder that your ultimate security lies not in wealth, status, or human support, but in the Hands of the One who never fails.
