Surah Al-Mulk — Verse 6

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse delivers a stark and sobering warning to those who reject their Lord — the One who brought them into existence, provided for them, and showered them with countless blessings. For such people, who knowingly turn away from the truth and refuse to acknowledge their Creator, there awaits the punishment of Jahannam — a fire whose heat is unimaginable, whose depths are terrifying, and whose torment is everlasting.

The verse then closes with a powerful condemnation: "And how evil is the destination!" This is not merely a description of punishment — it is an emphatic declaration that no place could be worse, no fate could be more miserable, and no end could be more disastrous than the one reserved for those who die upon disbelief. Every comfort they enjoyed in this world will be stripped away, and they will face the consequences of their arrogance and ingratitude.

This verse serves as a profound reminder for every soul: the life of this world is fleeting, and the choices we make here determine our eternal destiny. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has sent messengers, revealed scriptures, and placed signs throughout creation — all to guide humanity to the path of success. To reject all of that is to choose ruin over salvation, and Hellfire over Paradise.

Yet, the door of repentance remains open for those who turn back to Allah sincerely before death overtakes them. Allah is Al-Ghafoor (The Most Forgiving) and Ar-Raheem (The Most Merciful). He delights in the repentance of His servants and wipes away their sins entirely. So let this verse be a wake-up call — a call to reflect, to return, and to embrace the light of faith before the darkness of the grave descends. For the one who submits to Allah with a sincere heart will find, instead of Jahannam, gardens of delight where rivers flow beneath them, and where they will dwell forever in the pleasure of their Lord.
