Translation — Tafsir

- ذَرَأْنَا (Dhara'na): We created and brought into existence in abundance.
- لِجَهَنَّمَ (Li-Jahannam): For Hellfire — meaning, destined for it by their own choice and actions, as Allah's knowledge encompasses their deeds.
- لَا يَفْقَهُونَ (La yafqahun): They do not comprehend or grasp the truth with understanding.
- الْأَنْعَامِ (Al-An'am): Cattle or livestock — creatures that follow only their instincts and desires.
- أَضَلُّ (Adall): More astray, further from the right path.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, the Most High, declares that He has created many among the jinn and humankind who are bound for Hellfire — not because of any injustice on His part, but because He knows, through His eternal wisdom, that they will choose disbelief, arrogance, and disobedience. Their hearts are present, yet they do not use them to reflect upon the signs of Allah or to distinguish between truth and falsehood. They neither hope for His reward nor fear His punishment. Their eyes are open, yet they do not see the magnificent proofs of Allah's power in the heavens, the earth, and within their own souls. Their ears function, yet they do not truly listen to the verses of the Qur'an with an attentive, contemplative heart that would lead them to faith.
These people are likened to cattle — creatures that eat, drink, and follow their desires without understanding the purpose of their existence. But remarkably, they are even more misguided than cattle. For cattle at least recognize their shepherd, seek what benefits them, and flee from what harms them. These people, however, are so lost that they rush toward what destroys them in the Hereafter and turn away from what would save them. They are the truly heedless ones — completely oblivious to the purpose of their creation, the reality of death, and the Day of Judgment.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder this profound verse with a heart that seeks the truth. Allah did not create these beings for Hell out of whim — rather, He created them with free will, and they *chose* to close their hearts, eyes, and ears to His guidance. The tragedy is not in their creation, but in their neglect of the magnificent faculties Allah granted them. You, right now, have a beating heart, seeing eyes, and hearing ears. The question is: are you using them as Allah intended? Open your heart to the Qur'an, let your eyes witness the wonders of creation, and let your ears receive the call to truth. Do not be like those who have all the tools of guidance yet remain blind, deaf, and heedless. Allah's mercy is vast, and His door of repentance is open — but the key is in your hands. Turn to Him before the veil of heedlessness becomes permanent, and let your heart, eyes, and ears be the means of your salvation rather than your ruin.
