- صَامِتُونَ (silent): Refraining from calling them, keeping quiet.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse addresses both the polytheists who call upon their false gods and the believers who invite others to the truth. It declares that if you call upon these idols—whether they are stone statues, carved images, or any false deity worshipped besides Allah—to guide you or to follow the path of guidance, they will never respond to you, nor will they follow you. They are utterly incapable of hearing your voice, understanding your words, or moving toward you. Therefore, it makes absolutely no difference whether you call out to them with all your might or remain completely silent—the outcome is identical: nothing happens. They are lifeless objects, devoid of hearing, sight, speech, and intellect. They cannot benefit you, harm you, or guide you in any way.
The verse also carries a subtle, powerful message to the believers: do not waste your energy or despair over those who reject your call to Islam. Your duty is to convey the message clearly, and whether they respond or not, your reward is with Allah. The same principle applies to the idols—calling them is pure futility, and so is the case with those who stubbornly cling to falsehood after the truth has been made clear to them.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound truth: how can a being that cannot hear, see, or speak be worthy of your worship, your hopes, or your fears? The One who created the heavens and the earth, who hears every whisper and knows every secret thought—He is the only One deserving of your devotion. When you call upon Him, He answers. When you seek His guidance, He illuminates your path. When you place your trust in Him, He never lets you down. This is the beauty of Islam: it frees you from the chains of worshipping lifeless objects and connects you directly to the Living, Everlasting God. So turn your heart to Him today, and experience the peace that comes from knowing that your Lord hears you, sees you, and loves you. He is closer to you than your own jugular vein, and His doors of mercy are always open. Do not let your life be like the idols—silent, motionless, and empty—but rather be alive with faith, moving toward your Creator with every step, and calling others to the same eternal success.
