Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • لَهُمْ (for them): refers to the worshippers of the idols.
  • نَصْرًا (help/support): any form of assistance or defense against harm.
  • يَنصُرُونَ (they help): to come to someone's aid or protect them.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse completes the powerful argument against the worship of false deities. After establishing that these idols cannot create anything—being themselves created—Allah now presents a second undeniable proof of their utter helplessness: they cannot help their worshippers in any way, nor can they even help themselves.

Think deeply about this: the idols that people worship are so weak and powerless that they cannot repel even the slightest harm from their own selves. If a stone statue is knocked over, it cannot stand back up. If it is broken, it cannot repair itself. If it is burned, it cannot save itself from the fire. Yet, amazingly, it is the worshippers who protect their idols—cleaning them, guarding them, and defending them from damage!

So reflect on this profound reality: the one being worshipped is more helpless and lower in status than the one worshipping. The servant protects his god, feeds it nothing, and yet expects it to protect him from calamities and provide for his needs. What greater foolishness can there be? What greater injustice than to place such powerless objects alongside Allah—the Creator, the Sustainer, the All-Powerful—in worship?

This verse invites every sincere soul to wake up from the slumber of blind imitation and use their God-given intellect. If you are seeking protection, help, and victory, turn to the One who truly possesses all power—Allah, the Almighty. He is the One who answers the call of the distressed, who aids His believing servants, and who never abandons those who sincerely rely upon Him.

How beautiful is the state of the believer who places his trust in Allah alone! He is never disappointed, for his Lord is Ever-Living, All-Sufficient, and Capable of all things. So free yourself from the chains of false worship and taste the sweetness of true submission to the One who deserves all praise and worship. Indeed, in His care, you will find true honor, true protection, and true success in this life and the Hereafter.

📜 Verse 190-194 — Al-A'raf

But when He gives them a good [child], they ascribe partners to Him concerning that which He has given them. Exalted is Allah above what they associate with Him.
Do they associate with Him those who create nothing and they are [themselves] created?
And the false deities are unable to [give] them help, nor can they help themselves.
And if you [believers] invite them to guidance, they will not follow you. It is all the same for you whether you invite them or you are silent.
Indeed, those you [polytheists] call upon besides Allah are servants like you. So call upon them and let them respond to you, if you should be truthful.
