Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- إِلَّا (Illā): Except / But — a particle of exception, excluding a specific group from the general statement.
- الْمُصَلِّينَ (Al-Musallīn): Those who pray — the ones who establish and maintain their prayers consistently and devotedly.
Tafsir (Explanation):
After describing the inherent weakness of the human being — how he is prone to anxiety and despair when touched by hardship, and withholding and greed when blessed with ease — Allah, in His infinite mercy, makes a clear exception: except those who pray. These are the people who are saved from such blameworthy traits because their connection with their Lord transforms their hearts and purifies their souls.
The prayer mentioned here is not merely a ritual of empty movements; rather, it is the prayer that is established, maintained, and performed with presence of heart and devotion at its appointed times. Such worshippers are constantly reminded of their Creator, which instills in them patience during trials and generosity during prosperity. Their prayer becomes a shield against anxiety, greed, and selfishness, because it anchors them to a higher purpose and reminds them that all blessings come from Allah and all trials are part of His divine wisdom.
These people are not only distinguished by their prayer, but by the fruits that prayer produces in their lives — humility, gratitude, and a deep sense of accountability before Allah. They are the ones who truly understand the purpose of their existence and live accordingly, seeking the pleasure of their Lord in every action.
Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is a beacon of hope! Allah does not leave us to struggle alone with our human weaknesses. He gives us a practical, accessible solution — the prayer. The prayer is not a burden; it is a lifeline. It is the daily appointment with your Creator that resets your heart, calms your anxiety, and fills you with peace. Imagine having a direct connection with the Lord of the heavens and the earth, five times a day, whenever you need strength, comfort, or guidance. That is the gift of prayer. It transforms a restless soul into a serene one, and a selfish heart into a generous one. So hold fast to your prayer, and let it be the key that unlocks the best version of yourself — a version that is patient in hardship, grateful in ease, and always connected to Allah. This is the path to true success and inner peace, both in this life and the next.
