Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Kallā (كَلَّا): Absolutely not! A strong negation and rebuke, rejecting their false hopes and claims.
  • Khalaqnāhum (خَلَقْنَاهُمْ): We created them.
  • Mimmā yaʿlamūn (مِمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ): From what they know — i.e., from a despicable fluid (semen), which they are fully aware of.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse comes as a decisive and powerful response to the arrogant disbelievers who, despite their weakness and humble origins, dared to hope for entry into the Gardens of Delight. They rushed toward the Prophet ﷺ, staring at him in amazement and gathering around him in groups, questioning and mocking. Their hearts were filled with false pride, and each one of them foolishly wished to be admitted into Paradise.

Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) shatters this illusion with a single word: "Kallā!" — Absolutely not! This is not how things work. Then He reminds them of their true reality: "Indeed, We created them from what they know." They were not created from honor, light, or nobility — but from a humble drop of fluid, weak and despised. They know this full well; it is not hidden from them. They came from nothing, and they are weak in every sense — unable to bring benefit or harm to themselves, let alone control their own existence.

So from where does this arrogance come? From where this pretension to greatness? If they were created from such a lowly substance, and they remain weak and dependent on Allah every single moment, then how can they dare to claim that they deserve Paradise while rejecting their Creator and His Messenger? How can they turn away from the truth while their very existence testifies to the power and wisdom of their Maker?

This verse carries a profound lesson for every human being: remember your origin. You were once a drop of fluid, and you will one day return to dust. So do not let pride fill your heart, and do not let arrogance blind you from the truth. The One who created you from that humble beginning is fully capable of recreating you after death and calling you to account. Humble yourself before Him, believe in His message, and strive for His Paradise — for it is not attained by wishful thinking, but by sincere faith and righteous deeds.

A Call to Reflection:

O servant of Allah! Look at yourself and ponder: you were created from a drop, and you will end as dust. Yet Allah honored you with intellect, faith, and the opportunity to know Him. Do not waste this honor by following arrogance and denial. The door of repentance is open, and the mercy of Allah is vast. Come back to your Lord before it is too late, and seek His Paradise through humility, gratitude, and submission. For He is the Most Merciful, the Oft-Forgiving, and He loves those who turn to Him in sincerity.

Does every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure?
