- Sirajan (سِرَاجًا): A lamp or a blazing torch, indicating the intense, self-generated light of the sun.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah reminds humanity of His magnificent creation and His boundless power. He says: "And He made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp."
Allah placed the moon in the lowest heaven, giving it a soft, gentle light that serves the inhabitants of the earth—illuminating their nights and helping them navigate through darkness. As for the sun, He made it a blazing lamp, a brilliant source of light and heat that sustains life on earth, allowing people to see clearly, grow their crops, and carry out their daily affairs.
This verse calls upon every human being to reflect deeply on the universe around them. The perfect arrangement of these celestial bodies—the moon's calm glow and the sun's radiant blaze—is not a random accident. It is the deliberate, wise design of the Creator, Who has subjected these heavenly bodies to serve humanity. If you contemplate how the moon borrows its light and the sun burns with its own, you will see the hand of Allah in every flicker of light that reaches your eyes.
Dear reader, this is an invitation to open your heart to the greatness of Allah. The same Lord who hung the moon and the sun in the sky is the One who created you, sustains you, and watches over you. When you look up at the night sky and see the moon glowing softly, or when you feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, let it remind you of His mercy and His power. Let it draw you closer to Him in gratitude and submission, for He has placed these signs not merely for your benefit, but as a call to know Him, worship Him, and seek His forgiveness. Indeed, the One who manages the heavens with such perfection is more than capable of forgiving your sins, answering your prayers, and granting you a life of peace and blessing—both in this world and in the Hereafter.
