Word Meanings:

  • Al-Muslimūn (المسلمون): Those who submit to Allah with sincere obedience and surrender to His command.
  • Al-Qāsiṭūn (القاسطون): Those who deviate from the truth, act unjustly, and turn away from the straight path.
  • Taḥarraw (تحرّوا): They deliberately sought, intended, and aimed for something with careful choice.
  • Rashadan (رشدًا): Right guidance, goodness, and the path of truth and righteousness.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Allah informs us about the testimony of the jinn who listened to the Qur'an and believed in it. They said: "Among us are those who have submitted to Allah (the Muslims), and among us are those who have deviated from the truth (the Qāsiṭūn)." This is a profound acknowledgment that within every community—whether of humans or jinn—there are those who embrace guidance and those who turn away from it.

The verse then draws a clear distinction: "Whoever submits to Allah, those are the ones who have deliberately sought and chosen the path of right guidance." Their submission was not accidental or forced; rather, they consciously sought the truth, weighed it with sincerity, and embraced it wholeheartedly. This is the essence of Islam—a willing, intelligent surrender to the Creator, based on conviction and love, not blind following or compulsion.

This verse carries a beautiful lesson for every soul: the door of guidance is open to all, regardless of their past. The jinn who had once been among the deviators became guided ones through their sincere seeking of truth. Likewise, every person who turns to Allah with an open heart and a genuine desire for righteousness will find that Allah honors that intention and guides them to the path of success—both in this life and the Hereafter.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, reflect on this profound statement from the jinn: they did not claim perfection, nor did they hide their reality. They openly acknowledged that among them were both the obedient and the unjust. Yet, they emphasized that those who chose submission did so by deliberately seeking guidance. This teaches us that the path to Allah is not reserved for a select few—it is available to every soul that sincerely seeks it. Your past does not define your future; your sincere turn towards Allah today can transform your entire destiny. The Qur'an is not merely a book to be recited; it is a living guide that illuminates the heart and leads it to the highest ranks. Embrace it, act upon it, and join the ranks of those who have truly "sought right guidance"—for they are the successful ones in this world and the next.

📜 Verse 12-16 — Al-Jinn

And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allah upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.
And when we heard the guidance, we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord will not fear deprivation or burden.
And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allah], and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim - those have sought out the right course.
But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.'
And [Allah revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant provision
