Surah Al-Muddaththir — Verse 18

This verse refers to a specific disbeliever—one of the leaders of Quraysh—who, upon hearing the Qur'an, retreated into his own thoughts to devise a response against it. He reflected deeply, weighing his words carefully, and mentally crafted accusations to discredit the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the Qur'an. He calculated and estimated in his mind what he could say, preparing a plan to distort the truth.

This verse highlights a profound reality: when a person turns away from the truth, they exhaust their intellect not in seeking guidance, but in justifying their rejection. The very mind that Allah granted them—a gift meant for reflection upon His signs—becomes a tool for stubbornness and denial.
