Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse concludes the surah with a profound truth: no one can attain guidance or heed the Qur'an's admonition unless Allah wills it for them. The Qur'an is a clear and sufficient reminder, but the ability to benefit from it lies entirely in Allah's hands. He grants understanding and the desire to reform to whom He pleases, out of His infinite wisdom and mercy.
Allah alone is the One Who deserves to be feared and obeyed — meaning, He is worthy of our complete devotion, that we fulfill His commands, avoid His prohibitions, and guard ourselves against His displeasure. And He alone is the One Who deserves to be sought for forgiveness — meaning, He is the Most Forgiving, ever ready to pardon the sins of His servants when they turn back to Him in sincere repentance.
This verse instills in the believer a beautiful balance: a heart filled with reverent awe of Allah, and a heart filled with hopeful trust in His mercy. It reminds us that our efforts alone are never enough — we must always rely on Allah's will and grace. Yet, this reliance does not make us passive; rather, it drives us to strive harder, knowing that if Allah wills our success, nothing can stand in our way.
Dear reader, let this verse be a source of hope and motivation. If you find yourself struggling to stay steadfast, remember that even the desire to remember Allah is a gift from Him — so ask Him sincerely to open your heart, to make you among those who heed His message, and to grant you His forgiveness. For He is the One who, when you fear Him and obey Him, will not disappoint you; and when you seek His pardon, He is ever ready to forgive. Turn to Him, and you will find a Lord who is both Majestic in His greatness and Gentle in His mercy.
