Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Shā'a (شاء): Wills or desires.
- Dhakarahu (ذَكَرَهُ): Remembers it, takes heed of it, or mentions it (i.e., recites it and reflects upon it).
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse concludes a powerful passage about the Qur'an, describing it as a profound reminder and an admonition that is sufficient to awaken hearts and guide souls. Allah declares that the Qur'an is a clear, decisive warning—so whoever sincerely wishes to be reminded, let them remember it. This means: whoever desires to recite it, ponder its meanings, and act upon its guidance, they are free to do so. The door is wide open, and the path is clear; no one is forced, but the invitation is extended to all.
However, the verse subtly reminds us that true willingness to remember and benefit from the Qur'an is itself a gift from Allah. No one can truly take heed except by Allah's will and grace. This is not a contradiction but a profound truth: Allah has placed the means of guidance before you, yet the final success in benefiting from it depends on His mercy and decree. He is the One who deserves to be feared and obeyed, and He is also the One who forgives those who believe in Him and follow His guidance.
So, the message is both an encouragement and a humbling reminder: seize the opportunity of the Qur'an, for it is your lifeline, and simultaneously turn to Allah in humility, asking Him to open your heart to its truths. The one who reads the Qur'an with sincerity and acts upon it will find it a light in this world and a treasure in the Hereafter. The choice is yours—so choose well, and let your remembrance of Allah be your greatest gain.
