Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse is a beautiful promise from Allah to His righteous servants who fulfill their vows and fear a Day whose evil spreads far and wide. Allah says: "So Allah protected them from the evil of that Day and granted them radiance and joy."
The "evil of that Day" refers to the horrors, terrors, and hardships of the Day of Judgment — the intense heat of the sun brought near, the overwhelming sights, the questioning, and the reckoning. For the believers who feared Allah in this world, who fed the poor, the orphan, and the captive for His sake alone, Allah shields them completely from all of that. Not a single trace of that Day's distress touches them.
Then comes the second gift: "And granted them radiance and joy." This is a double blessing — radiance (naḍrah) in their faces and joy (surūr) in their hearts. Their faces will shine with the light of honor and beauty, reflecting the inner peace and happiness that fills their hearts. This is the opposite of the sinners on that Day, whose faces will be darkened and covered with dust and misery.
This verse teaches us a profound truth: the protection of Allah is not merely from physical punishment, but it is a comprehensive care that includes inner peace and outer beauty. When a person sincerely fears Allah and acts upon that fear with good deeds, Allah rewards them with both security and serenity.
Imagine the contrast: while others are overwhelmed by the terrors of that Day, these believers are calm, radiant, and joyful. Their faces glow, their hearts are at ease, and they are surrounded by divine mercy. This is the ultimate success — to be safe from what is feared and to receive what is loved.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is an invitation to reflect on your relationship with Allah. The people described here were not angels — they were human beings like you and me, who struggled, who gave, who feared, and who hoped. They fed the needy despite their own love for food, they cared for orphans and captives, and they did all of this sincerely for Allah's sake.
If you desire this radiance on your face and this joy in your heart — both in this life and on that Day — then take the path of faith and good deeds. Allah's promise is true: whoever protects His rights, Allah will protect them from every evil. Whoever brings goodness to others, Allah will bring goodness to them.
The joy of the Hereafter is not a distant dream; it is a reality promised by the Most Merciful. Let this verse inspire you to be among those who receive this divine gift — a face shining with light and a heart filled with eternal happiness.
