Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Wildānun mukhalladūn (وِلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ): Everlasting youths, eternally young servants who remain in a state of perpetual freshness and vigor, never aging or changing.
- Ḥasibtahum (حَسِبْتَهُمْ): You would think or imagine them.
- Lu’lu’an manthūran (لُؤْلُؤًا مَّنثُورًا): Scattered pearls — pearls that are spread out and dispersed, which appear even more radiant and beautiful than those arranged in a string.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this magnificent verse, Allah describes the blissful scene awaiting the righteous in Paradise. Around these blessed souls move immortal youths — servants who are eternally young, never growing old, never tiring, and always ready to attend to their every need. These youths are not like the servants of this world; they are created in a state of perfect beauty and perpetual vitality.
When a person beholds these youths, they would immediately mistake them for scattered pearls — so radiant is their complexion, so pure and luminous are their faces, so flawless is their appearance. The comparison to scattered pearls is particularly striking because pearls that are dispersed and spread out catch the light from every angle, appearing even more dazzling than those neatly strung together. Similarly, these youths move about freely in the service of the righteous, their movements and distribution adding to the breathtaking beauty of the scene.
This imagery invites the believer to reflect on the unimaginable perfection of Paradise — a place where even the servants are more beautiful than the most precious gems of this world. The verse stirs within the heart a deep longing for that eternal abode and motivates the believer to strive for righteousness in this fleeting life.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, let this vivid description awaken your heart! If the servants of Paradise are described as scattered pearls, then what must the dwellers of Paradise themselves be like? And what of the vision of their Lord, which is the greatest joy of all? This verse is not merely a story — it is an invitation. It calls you to be among the righteous, to hold fast to faith, to perform good deeds, and to purify your heart. Every act of kindness, every prayer, every moment of patience in this world is a seed for such eternal beauty. Do not let this world deceive you with its fleeting pleasures, for what Allah has prepared for His righteous servants is beyond what any eye has seen, any ear has heard, and any human heart has ever conceived. Strive today, so that tomorrow you may witness this splendor with your own eyes.
