Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ʿAynan (عَيْنًا): A spring or fountain of water.
- Salsabīl (سَلْسَبِيلًا): A name given to this spring, derived from the Arabic root meaning "easy to swallow," "smooth," and "pleasant to drink." It signifies water that flows gently and goes down the throat with ease.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, Allah describes one of the delights prepared for the righteous in Paradise: they are given to drink from a spring called *Salsabīl*. This spring is not like the springs of this world; rather, it is a source of pure, exquisite drink that has been blended with ginger, as mentioned in the preceding verse. The name *Salsabīl* itself reflects its nature—its water is smooth, mild, and free from any harshness or sharpness. Unlike the ginger of this world, which can have a burning or pungent effect, the ginger of Paradise is perfected, and the water from this spring flows so gently that it glides down the throat with absolute ease and pleasure.
This spring is exclusively for the righteous—those who fulfill their vows, feed the needy, the orphan, and the captive for the love of Allah, and who fear a Day of severe reckoning. It is a reward for their patience and devotion, a drink that brings them joy and refreshment beyond anything they have ever experienced. The mention of its name, *Salsabīl*, is a beautiful detail that highlights the perfection of Paradise: even the names of its blessings reflect their excellence and ease.
A Daʿwah Reflection:
Imagine a drink so smooth and delightful that it flows through you like pure serenity—this is but one of the countless blessings Allah has prepared for His beloved servants. How merciful is our Lord, who not only forgives our sins but also grants us such exquisite rewards for our good deeds! This verse invites us to reflect: if this is the reward for a few days of patience and charity in this fleeting world, how magnificent must the eternal bliss of Paradise be? Let this inspire us to strive in good deeds, to love for Allah, and to seek His pleasure, so that we may one day drink from *Salsabīl* and taste the sweetness of His infinite generosity. May Allah make us among those who are given this blessed drink, and may He quench our hearts with the coolness of faith and the joy of His nearness.
