Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Bardan (بَرْدًا): Coolness, relief, or anything that brings comfort and respite from the intense heat.
- Sharāban (شَرَابًا): A drink, beverage, or anything consumed to quench thirst and bring refreshment.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Allah describes the dire state of the disbelievers in Hellfire. They will not taste any coolness—no breeze, no shade, no relief whatsoever from the scorching, unbearable heat that surrounds them. Nor will they find any drink to quench their burning thirst. Every attempt to find comfort or ease will be utterly futile. The intense heat will never subside, and their thirst will remain unrelenting, with no source of refreshment to soothe their suffering.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences of rejecting the truth and living a life of disobedience. The torment of Hell is not merely physical but also psychological—the complete absence of hope for any relief. Imagine being trapped in a state where every need is denied, every comfort is stripped away, and there is no escape. This is the reality that awaits those who turn away from Allah’s guidance.
Yet, this verse is also an invitation to reflect on the mercy of Allah in this life. In this world, even in the harshest conditions, Allah provides moments of coolness, water to drink, and relief from pain. These blessings are not accidental—they are signs of His infinite compassion, calling us to gratitude and submission. When we feel the cool breeze on a hot day or drink a sip of fresh water, let us remember that these are gifts from our Lord, and let us use them as reminders to draw closer to Him.
The believer, by contrast, is promised in Paradise rivers of pure water, gardens with cool shades, and drinks that bring joy and satisfaction. This contrast between the fate of the disbelievers and the believers should inspire us to strive for righteousness, to seek Allah’s pleasure, and to be among those who will enjoy His eternal mercy. Let this verse be a wake-up call to turn back to Allah, to repent, and to live a life that leads to everlasting bliss rather than eternal regret.
