Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- طَغَى (taghā): To transgress, exceed all bounds, or rebel against what is right. It implies arrogance, defiance, and crossing the limits set by Allah.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse begins a powerful contrast between two categories of people on the Day of Judgment. The word "طَغَى" refers to those who have transgressed beyond all limits in their rebellion against Allah—those who have immersed themselves in disbelief, arrogance, and sin without restraint. They are the ones who chose to follow their own desires over the guidance of their Creator, who preferred the fleeting pleasures of this worldly life over the eternal rewards of the Hereafter. Their transgression was not a mere mistake or a momentary lapse; rather, it was a deliberate and persistent crossing of every boundary that Allah has set for humanity. They rejected the truth when it came to them, and they persisted in their defiance until the very end.
The verse sets the stage for what follows—a declaration of their ultimate fate. For such people, the consequences are severe and inescapable. Their end is the Fire, a place of punishment and regret, where they will taste the fruit of their arrogance and rebellion. This is not a punishment born of injustice, but rather the natural and just outcome of a life spent in deliberate opposition to the truth.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound truth. The One who created you, who sustains you, and who has given you countless blessings—He has also clearly shown you the path of guidance. The choice is yours. Will you be among those who transgress, who let pride and desire blind them to the truth? Or will you be among those who humble themselves before their Lord, who purify their hearts, and who strive for His pleasure?
The door of repentance is open until the moment your soul leaves your body. Do not let arrogance or the love of this world deceive you. Every breath you take is an opportunity to turn back to Allah, to seek His forgiveness, and to secure a place of eternal bliss. The Hereafter is real, and its rewards are far greater than anything this world can offer. Choose wisely, for your choice today will determine your destiny tomorrow.
