Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Tanaaza'u (تَنَازَعُوا): To dispute, disagree, or fall into conflict with one another over opinions and matters.
- Tafshalu (تَفْشَلُوا): To become weak, cowardly, and lose courage.
- Reehukum (رِيحُكُمْ): Literally "your wind," meaning your power, strength, authority, and the success of your affairs. In Arabic, when a person's "wind blows," it means their command prevails and their matters proceed as they wish.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Most High, commands the believers to remain steadfast in obedience to Him and to His Messenger (peace be upon him) in all their words, deeds, and conditions of life. This obedience is the foundation of unity, strength, and divine support. Then Allah warns them against disagreement and dispute, for when hearts divide and opinions clash, courage fades, resolve weakens, and the enemy finds an opening. The result is that their "wind" — their power, honor, and victory — departs from them. This is a profound lesson: unity in obedience brings might, while division in opinion brings ruin.
Allah then commands patience — patience in facing the enemy, patience in obedience, and patience in refraining from sin. He concludes with a promise that fills the heart with certainty: "Indeed, Allah is with the patient." This divine companionship means His help, victory, and support. Whoever has Allah with him is inevitably the victor, even if the world stands against him.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, this verse is a timeless constitution for success in this life and the next. It teaches us that our strength does not lie in numbers or weapons alone, but in our unity under the banner of Allah and His Messenger. When we obey Allah and His Messenger, our affairs are blessed, our hearts are united, and our enemies are humbled. But when we dispute and split, we lose the very essence of our power.
So hold fast to the rope of Allah, be patient in times of hardship, and trust in His promise. For Allah is with the patient — and when Allah is with you, no force on earth can overcome you. Let this verse be a source of hope and courage in your daily life, reminding you that victory belongs to those who combine obedience, unity, and patience.
