Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • يَصْلَى: He will enter it and endure its heat, suffering its torment.
  • النَّارَ الْكُبْرَى: The Greatest Fire — the immense, severe Fire of the Hereafter, as opposed to the lesser fire of this worldly life.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse describes the fate of the most wretched person — the one who turns away from the reminder of Allah and does not fear his Lord. Such a person will enter the Greatest Fire, the blazing inferno of the Hereafter, and will taste its unbearable heat and agony. This is the fire that is far greater and more intense than any fire known in this world — a fire whose torment is eternal and whose severity knows no end. The one who enters it will not die therein to find rest, nor will he live a life that benefits him; rather, he will remain in perpetual suffering, enduring punishment that never ceases.

This is a profound reminder that the pleasures of this world, no matter how alluring, are temporary and fleeting, while the consequences of heedlessness are everlasting. The Greatest Fire is reserved for those who rejected the truth, mocked the warnings, and lived their lives in arrogance and disobedience. Yet, the very mention of this fire serves as a mercy from Allah — a warning meant to awaken hearts before it is too late.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse is not meant to instill despair, but to inspire action. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has told us about this fire so that we may avoid it. He has given us the Qur'an, the reminder, and the opportunity to turn back to Him at any moment before death overtakes us. The door of repentance is wide open — so why delay? Let the fear of the Greatest Fire motivate you to draw closer to your Creator, to perform your prayers, to give charity, and to treat others with kindness. Every good deed you do in this life is a shield against that fire. Every sincere repentance extinguishes the flames that await the heedless. Do not be among those who only remember Allah in times of ease and forget Him in times of hardship. Rather, be among the successful ones who purify their souls, remember their Lord, and strive for the eternal bliss of Paradise. The choice is yours — and the time to choose is now.
