Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- سَنُقْرِئُكَ (Sanuqri'uka): We will make you recite/read — meaning, We will teach you and instill the Quran firmly in your heart so that you recite it with ease.
- فَلَا تَنسَىٰ (Falā tansā): So you will not forget — meaning, you will not lose or overlook any part of it.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger of Allah, Allah — in His infinite mercy and power — assures you that He Himself will teach you this Quran and embed it within your chest, such that you will recite it flawlessly and never forget it. This was a direct response to the Prophet's ﷺ natural human concern: whenever the angel Jibreel (Gabriel) would recite the revelation to him, the Prophet ﷺ would hasten to repeat the words along with him, fearing that he might miss or forget something. So Allah ﷻ reassured him: "Do not rush — We are the One Who has taken responsibility for your memorization and preservation. You will not forget."
This verse also carries a profound exception: "except what Allah wills" — meaning, if Allah ever caused him to forget something, it was only for a divine wisdom and purpose, and He would always restore it or replace it with what is better. Thus, the Prophet ﷺ never suffered from loss of revelation; rather, his memory of the Quran became a living miracle — he recited it exactly as it was revealed, and it remains preserved to this day.
Allah ﷻ then reminds us that He knows all — the open and the hidden, the spoken and the concealed. Nothing escapes His knowledge, and His promise to His Prophet ﷺ was fulfilled completely: the Prophet ﷺ never forgot any part of the Quran after this assurance.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse is a source of immense comfort and hope for every believer. If Allah ﷻ took it upon Himself to preserve the Quran in the heart of His beloved Prophet ﷺ, then He also opens the doors of memorization and understanding for those who sincerely strive. Do not fear weakness of memory or the passage of time — when you turn to Allah with a pure intention to learn His Book, He will aid you in ways you cannot imagine. The same Allah who promised His Prophet ﷺ "you will not forget" is the One who strengthens the hearts and minds of His servants. So begin your journey with the Quran today — recite, memorize, and reflect — and trust that Allah will not abandon you. The Quran is not just a book; it is a living miracle, a light for the heart, and a companion that will never let you down. Let this verse ignite in you the love for Allah's words, for He has guaranteed preservation for those who hold fast to His rope.
