Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ارْجِعِي (Irjiʿī): Return, come back.
- رَاضِيَةً (Rāḍiyah): Content, pleased, satisfied.
- مَّرْضِيَّةً (Marḍiyyah): One with whom Allah is pleased; accepted and approved.
Explanation of the Verse:
This is the divine call addressed to the tranquil soul — the soul that has found true peace through faith in Allah, remembrance of Him, and certainty in His promises. When the believer’s journey in this worldly life comes to an end, Allah addresses this soul with words of immense honor and tenderness: *"Return to your Lord."*
This return is not one of fear or reluctance, but of contentment (rāḍiyah) — the soul is pleased with its Lord, with His decree, and with the immense reward He has prepared. It has submitted to His will throughout life, and now it reaps the fruit of that submission. At the same time, the soul is pleasing to Allah (marḍiyyah) — because its deeds were sincere, its faith was firm, and its efforts were directed toward His pleasure. So Allah, in His infinite mercy, declares His own satisfaction with this soul.
This verse beautifully captures the mutual love between the servant and the Creator: the servant is pleased with Allah, and Allah is pleased with the servant. It is a state of perfect harmony and ultimate success.
A Daʿwah Reflection:
Dear reader, imagine this moment — the moment when your soul is called back to its Creator, not with harshness, but with this loving invitation. What greater honor could there be than to hear your Lord say, *"Return to Me, pleased and pleasing"*? This is the destiny of those who live their lives in obedience, who turn to Allah in times of ease and hardship, and who never lose hope in His mercy.
This verse is a source of immense hope and motivation. It tells us that no matter how many trials we face in this world, the final destination for the believer is one of peace, honor, and divine pleasure. So strive today — through prayer, charity, kindness, and sincerity — to be among those who will hear this blessed call. Let your heart be at peace with Allah now, so that you may return to Him in peace forever. May Allah make us all among the people of the tranquil soul, and may He welcome us with these words on the Day we meet Him.
