Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Wizrak (وِزْرَكَ): Your burden, load, or heavy weight — referring to the heavy responsibility or hardship that weighed upon the Prophet (peace be upon him). In this context, it signifies the burden of the prophetic mission, the difficulties of calling people to Islam, and the weight of past struggles.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse is a continuation of the divine blessings that Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) bestowed upon His beloved Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him). After mentioning in the previous verse that He expanded his chest — filling it with wisdom, faith, and tranquility — Allah now says: "And We removed from you your burden."
This means that Allah lifted from the Prophet (peace be upon him) the heavy load that weighed upon his back — the immense responsibility of conveying the message, the hardships he endured from his people's rejection and persecution, and the anxieties that accompanied his mission. It also includes the forgiveness of any minor slips or shortcomings that occurred before prophethood, as well as the removal of the weight of ignorance that prevailed during the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah). Through this divine favor, Allah purified His Prophet and lightened his path, making his mission easier and his heart more at peace.
This verse carries a profound message of comfort and reassurance: just as Allah relieved His Prophet of his burdens, He also promises relief to every believer who strives in His cause. The burdens of life — whether they are struggles in faith, trials in daily existence, or the weight of past mistakes — are not permanent. Allah, in His infinite mercy, lifts them from those who turn to Him sincerely.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this beautiful promise: Allah does not leave His servants crushed under the weight of their struggles. When you feel overwhelmed by the challenges of life, remember that the same Allah who expanded the chest of His Prophet and removed his burden is capable of removing yours. Turn to Him in supplication, seek His forgiveness, and trust in His plan. The relief is near, for Allah says: "Indeed, with hardship comes ease" (Ash-Sharh: 6). Let this verse fill your heart with hope and strengthen your resolve to carry on with patience and faith, knowing that your Lord is always with you, ready to lighten your load and guide you to peace.
