فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُ فِي الْفُلْكِ وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ خَلَائِفَ وَأَغْرَقْنَا الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا ۖ فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُنذَرِينَ ۝٧٣

Fakazzaboohu fanajjainaahu wa mamm`ahoo fil fulki wa ja`alnaahum khalaaa`ifa wa aghraqnal lazeena kazzaboo bi aayaatinaa fanzur kaifa kaana `aaqibatul munzareen

And they denied him, so We saved him and those with him in the ship and made them successors, and We drowned those who denied Our signs. Then see how was the end of those who were warned.

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

Al-Fulk (الفلك): The ship or ark.
Khala'if (خَلَائِف): Successors or inheritors of the earth after the destruction of the disbelievers.
Al-Mundharin (الْمُنذَرِينَ): Those who were warned by the messengers but persisted in denial.

Tafsir (Explanation):

After Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) called his people to the worship of Allah alone for centuries, enduring their mockery and rejection, they continued to deny him and refused to believe in the signs of Allah. So Allah fulfilled His promise to His prophet: He saved Nuh and the believers who were with him in the ark, while the flood drowned the disbelievers. Then Allah made the survivors the successors on earth, inheriting the land after the destruction of the arrogant deniers. Those who rejected Allah's clear signs and miracles were drowned in the depths of the water as a just punishment for their stubbornness.

Allah then directs the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and all who read this verse to reflect: "Look at how the end of those who were warned turned out!" They were given ample time, clear warnings, and repeated reminders—yet they chose arrogance over faith, and their final destination was utter destruction. This is a timeless lesson: the fate of those who reject the truth is always ruin, while the believers are always saved and honored.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse carries a profound message of hope and warning for every generation. It reassures the believer that no matter how long the road of patience may seem, Allah's victory is certain for those who remain steadfast. The ark of salvation is always ready for those who board it with faith and righteous deeds. At the same time, it serves as a gentle yet firm reminder to those who hear the truth and turn away: do not let pride or stubbornness lead you to the fate of Nuh's people. The door of repentance is open, and Allah's mercy is vast—but His justice is also real. Let us be among those who learn from the lessons of the past, so that we may be among the saved, not the drowned.

71۞ وَاتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ نُوحٍ إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ يَا قَوْمِ إِن كَانَ كَبُرَ عَلَيْكُم مَّقَامِي وَتَذْكِيرِي بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَعَلَى اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ فَأَجْمِعُوا أَمْرَكُمْ وَشُرَكَاءَكُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَكُنْ أَمْرُكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ غُمَّةً ثُمَّ اقْضُوا إِلَيَّ وَلَا تُنظِرُونِ

And recite to them the news of Noah, when he said to his people, "O my people, if my residence and my reminding of the signs of Allah has become burdensome upon you - then I have relied upon Allah. So resolve upon your plan and [call upon] your associates. Then let not your plan be obscure to you. Then carry it out upon me and do not give me respite.

72فَإِن تَوَلَّيْتُمْ فَمَا سَأَلْتُكُم مِّنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى اللَّهِ ۖ وَأُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

And if you turn away [from my advice] then no payment have I asked of you. My reward is only from Allah, and I have been commanded to be of the Muslims."

73فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُ فِي الْفُلْكِ وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ خَلَائِفَ وَأَغْرَقْنَا الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا ۖ فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُنذَرِينَ

And they denied him, so We saved him and those with him in the ship and made them successors, and We drowned those who denied Our signs. Then see how was the end of those who were warned.

74ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَا مِن بَعْدِهِ رُسُلًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِمْ فَجَاءُوهُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَمَا كَانُوا لِيُؤْمِنُوا بِمَا كَذَّبُوا بِهِ مِن قَبْلُ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَطْبَعُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ الْمُعْتَدِينَ

Then We sent after him messengers to their peoples, and they came to them with clear proofs. But they were not to believe in that which they had denied before. Thus We seal over the hearts of the transgressors

75ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَا مِن بَعْدِهِم مُّوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ بِآيَاتِنَا فَاسْتَكْبَرُوا وَكَانُوا قَوْمًا مُّجْرِمِينَ

Then We sent after them Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh and his establishment with Our signs, but they behaved arrogantly and were a criminal people
