Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, Prophet Nūḥ (peace be upon him) addresses his people after they rejected his call, and his words carry a profound lesson for all of humanity. He says: "If you turn away from my message and refuse to listen, then know that I have never asked you for any worldly reward or payment for conveying this truth to you. I do not seek wealth, status, or any benefit from you whatsoever. My reward is only with Allah — He alone is the One who will recompense me for my efforts, whether you believe or disbelieve. My connection is with Him, not with your acceptance or rejection."
Then he adds a statement that defines his very essence: "And I have been commanded to be among the Muslims" — meaning, I have been ordered by my Lord to be among those who submit completely to His will, who obey His commands, and who surrender their hearts and actions to Him alone. This is not merely a title; it is a way of life. The Prophet Nūḥ declares that his mission is purely for Allah’s sake, and his identity is rooted in total submission to his Creator.
This verse carries a timeless message for every believer: the call to truth must be free from any worldly motives. A true caller to Allah does not seek personal gain, fame, or reward from people. Their only hope is the pleasure of Allah and His reward in the Hereafter. This purity of intention is what gives strength and sincerity to the message.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this prophetic character. Here is a great prophet who spent centuries calling his people, facing rejection and hardship, yet he never asked for anything in return. He only sought Allah’s reward. This teaches us that when we do good deeds — whether it is teaching, helping others, or spreading goodness — we should purify our intentions for Allah alone. When our hearts are attached to Allah, we become free from the need for people’s approval or gratitude.
And when Nūḥ says, "I have been commanded to be among the Muslims," he reminds us that Islam is not just a label we carry — it is a living reality of submission to Allah in every aspect of our lives. It means surrendering our will to His commands, trusting His wisdom, and following His guidance with sincerity and devotion.
So, let us ask ourselves: Are we truly among the Muslims — those who submit their hearts, tongues, and actions to Allah? Let us strive to make our intentions pure, our deeds sincere, and our lives a reflection of that beautiful submission which the prophets themselves embodied. Indeed, the path of the believers is the path of peace, purpose, and eternal success.
