Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ظَلَمُوا أَنفُسَهُمْ (wronged themselves): They brought destruction upon themselves through their own disbelief and sins.
- أَغْنَتْ (availed/benefited): Did not protect or help in any way.
- تَتْبِيبٍ (loss/ruin): Complete destruction, loss, and perdition.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this profound verse, Allah clarifies a fundamental truth about His perfect justice: He never wrongs anyone. The destruction that befell these nations was not an act of oppression from Allah, but rather the natural consequence of their own choices. They wronged themselves by persisting in disbelief, polytheism, and corruption on earth, despite the warnings of their messengers.
When the decree of your Lord came—the moment of divine punishment—all those gods and idols they used to call upon besides Allah, hoping for help and protection, were utterly useless. Those false deities could not repel even a moment of the punishment, nor could they intercede or save their worshippers.
What did these idols actually add to their worshippers? Nothing but loss, ruin, and destruction. The very things they placed their hope in became the cause of their greater disappointment and downfall. Their false gods did not merely fail to help—they deepened their misery and sealed their fate.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse carries a timeless lesson for every soul. It reminds us that no matter how many false refuges we build in this life—wealth, status, false gods, or worldly attachments—none of them can protect us when Allah's decree arrives. The only true refuge is Allah Himself. How merciful is our Lord that He sent messengers to warn us before His punishment comes! Let us not wait until it is too late. Turn to Allah now, sincerely, and place your trust only in Him. He is the One who hears, sees, and responds. Do not be like those who realized the truth only when their false gods failed them—for that realization came too late. Today, the door of repentance is open. Do not delay, for no one knows when the decree of the Lord will come.
