Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- يُخْزِيهِ — brings humiliation and disgrace upon him.
- يَحِلُّ عَلَيْهِ — descends upon him and becomes his lot.
- عَذَابٌ مُّقِيمٌ — a lasting, permanent punishment that never ends.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) addresses his people with a tone of firm certainty and solemn warning. He tells them: "You will soon come to know, when the decree of Allah unfolds, which of us will be visited by a punishment that brings disgrace and humiliation in this very world — and upon whom will descend an everlasting torment in the Hereafter that knows no respite."
This is a declaration of the inevitable outcome of their stubborn rejection and mockery. The "punishment that disgraces" refers to the punishment of this worldly life — for the people of Nuh, it was the great flood that drowned them all. The "everlasting punishment" refers to the torment of the Hereafter — the fire of Hell that never extinguishes and from which there is no escape.
The verse carries a profound lesson: the disbelievers who mocked Nuh while he built the ark thought they were secure in their power and numbers. Yet, the very thing they ridiculed became the means of their destruction. Allah's promise is true, and His justice is certain. No one can escape His decree, and no amount of worldly strength can shield a soul from the consequences of rejecting His messengers.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder this verse deeply. The people of Nuh were given every chance — centuries of calling, endless patience, and clear signs — yet they chose arrogance over guidance. Their end was disgrace in this life and eternal punishment in the next. This is not merely a historical account; it is a timeless warning for every generation. Allah's mercy is vast, and His door of repentance remains open until the moment of death. But when His decree arrives, no soul can bargain or delay. Let this verse awaken your heart: do not be among those who only realize the truth when it is too late. Embrace the guidance of Allah today, and you will be among those who are saved from disgrace in this world and granted eternal bliss in the Hereafter. The choice is yours — and the time is now.
