Tafsir (Explanation):
The people of ‘Ād, in their arrogance and stubbornness, addressed their Prophet Hūd (peace be upon him) with mockery and accusation. They said: "We say nothing about you except that one of our gods has afflicted you with madness!" They claimed that because Hūd had rejected their idols and called them to worship Allah alone, one of their so-called deities had struck him with insanity. This was their feeble attempt to dismiss his message and undermine his credibility, without offering any rational argument or proof.
But how did the noble Prophet respond? With unwavering certainty and profound courage, he declared: "Indeed, I call Allah as my Witness, and you too bear witness, that I am completely free from everything you associate with Him!" He did not waver, nor did he soften his stance. Instead, he publicly disowned their false gods and their entire system of polytheism, making it clear that he had no fear of their idols and no attachment to their claims.
This response carries a powerful lesson for every believer: when the truth is clear, there is no room for compromise. Hūd’s declaration was not merely a statement of disavowal—it was an open challenge to his people and their idols, demonstrating his absolute trust in Allah’s protection and his certainty that no created thing, whether idol or human, could harm him without Allah’s permission.
Reflect on the beauty of this moment: a single man, standing against a powerful nation, declaring his innocence from their falsehood while calling upon Allah as his Witness. This is the essence of true faith—relying on Allah alone, speaking the truth without fear, and placing one’s complete trust in the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
For us today, this verse is a reminder that we must also declare our innocence from all forms of shirk (associating partners with Allah)—whether in worship, in intentions, or in daily life. It calls us to purify our hearts, to rely solely on Allah, and to stand firm upon the truth, no matter how strong the opposition may seem. For whoever places their trust in Allah, He is sufficient, and no harm can reach them except what Allah has decreed.
