Explanation of the Verse:
After Yusuf (peace be upon him) was thrown into the well by his brothers, Allah’s divine plan continued to unfold. A caravan of travelers happened to pass by and stopped near the well. They sent their water-drawer to fetch water for them. When he lowered his bucket into the well, Yusuf clung to the rope, and as the man pulled it up, he saw a beautiful young boy. Overwhelmed with excitement, he cried out, "Oh, what good news! Here is a boy!" — a treasure he never expected to find in a well.
The water-drawer and his companions then concealed Yusuf from the rest of the caravan, hiding his true story. They claimed he was merely merchandise they had acquired, so they could sell him later and keep the profit for themselves, without having to share him with the other travelers. Some narrations mention that Yusuf’s brothers, upon seeing the caravan, came forward and claimed Yusuf was their runaway slave, selling him to the travelers for a small price — while Yusuf remained silent, fearing for his life.
And Allah — Glorified and Exalted — knew perfectly well everything they were doing. Nothing of their schemes, secrets, or intentions was hidden from Him. He was fully aware of every step they took, and His wisdom was at work behind the scenes, turning this apparent tragedy into a foundation for Yusuf’s future greatness.
A Call to Reflection:
This verse carries profound lessons for every believer. See how Allah, the Most Wise, orchestrated events that seemed like utter darkness — a young boy abandoned in a dark well — and transformed them into the beginning of a journey toward honor and power. Never lose hope in Allah’s plan, no matter how difficult your circumstances appear. The same Allah who saved Yusuf from the depths of that well is the One who hears your prayers today. He is always aware of what happens to you, even when others plot against you or forget you. Trust Him completely, for His knowledge encompasses everything, and His mercy is greater than any hardship you face. Let this story fill your heart with certainty that after every trial comes relief, and that Allah never abandons His sincere servants.
