Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Wayl (وَيْلٌ): A severe calamity, destruction, or intense suffering. It is a word of threat and warning indicating profound misery.
- Min 'Adhabin Shadid (مِنْ عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ): From a severe, overwhelming punishment that cannot be withstood.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse continues the description of the Book revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), clarifying that it is a revelation from Allah—the One who is the Almighty, worthy of all praise, and the Owner of everything that exists in the heavens and the earth. Nothing is outside His dominion; every atom, every creature, and every event falls under His absolute authority and control. Because He alone possesses all that is above and below, He alone deserves to be worshipped, obeyed, and revered—without any partner or associate.
The verse then delivers a stern warning: "Woe to the disbelievers from a severe punishment." This is a declaration of ruin and destruction for those who reject faith, deny the truth, and refuse to emerge from the darkness of ignorance and disbelief into the light of guidance. Their punishment is not trivial—it is severe, overwhelming, and inescapable. This serves as both a threat and a call to reflection: those who turn away from the One who owns everything are heading toward a fate of unimaginable suffering.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on the majesty of this verse. The One who sent down this Book is the Owner of all that exists—the heavens with their vast galaxies, the earth with its mountains and oceans, and everything in between. When you realize that this same Allah is your Creator and Sustainer, how could you not turn to Him in gratitude and submission? The warning of severe punishment is not meant to frighten you into despair, but to awaken your heart before it is too late. The door of repentance is open, and the path from darkness to light is clear. Do not let pride or neglect keep you from the mercy of the One who owns everything—for His mercy is greater than His wrath, and His forgiveness is available to all who seek it sincerely. Embrace the truth today, and you will find peace in this life and safety in the next.
