Key Words and Phrases:
- Nukhfi (نُخْفِي): What we conceal, hide, or keep secret within ourselves.
- Nu‘lin (نُعْلِنُ): What we reveal, declare, or make public.
- Yakhfā (يَخْفَىٰ): To be hidden, concealed, or unknown.
Explanation of the Verse:
This is the heartfelt supplication of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and his son Ismail, as they raised the foundations of the Sacred House (the Kaaba). They turn to their Lord with profound humility and awareness, saying: "Our Lord, indeed You know what we conceal and what we declare."
This statement is not merely an acknowledgment of God's omniscience; it is a confession of total dependence. Ibrahim and Ismail are saying: *You, O Allah, know our innermost intentions, our silent struggles, our hidden fears, and our unspoken hopes—just as You know every word we utter and every action we take publicly.* They are not only stating a fact about God's knowledge but are also presenting their complete state of need before Him. They are saying: *You know our poverty, our weakness, and our desperate need for Your guidance and mercy, even in matters we cannot articulate ourselves.*
The verse then expands this truth to a universal scale: "And nothing is hidden from Allah, not even the weight of an atom, in the earth or in the heavens." This is a sweeping declaration that the knowledge of Allah encompasses every particle, every movement, every thought, and every secret—whether in the depths of the earth or the vast expanse of the heavens. Nothing escapes His awareness, and no secret is too small or too great for His knowledge.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer. When you feel that no one understands your struggles, your silent prayers, or the burdens you carry in your heart—remember that Allah knows it all. He knows the sincerity of your intentions even before you act. He knows the pain you hide behind a smile and the tears you shed in the darkness of the night. This knowledge is not a source of fear for the believer; rather, it is a source of immense comfort and hope.
When you call upon Allah, you are not speaking to someone distant or unaware. You are speaking to the One who knows every detail of your situation, who knows what is best for you, and who responds with perfect wisdom and mercy. So, like Ibrahim and Ismail, turn to Allah with complete trust, knowing that He hears you, sees you, and knows exactly what you need—even before you ask. Let this verse fill your heart with tranquility, for the One who knows all is the One who loves you most and is most capable of answering your prayers.
