Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Bil-Haqq (بِالْحَقِّ): With truth, with justice, with profound wisdom and purpose — not in vain or as a plaything.
- Ta'ālā (تَعَالَىٰ): Exalted, elevated, far above and beyond — a declaration of Allah's absolute transcendence.
- Yushrikūn (يُشْرِكُونَ): They associate partners (with Allah in worship) — the act of shirk, attributing divinity to anything other than Allah.
The Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah — the Almighty — created the heavens and the earth with absolute truth and perfect wisdom. He did not create them in vain, nor as a meaningless amusement, but rather as a magnificent sign pointing to His infinite power, knowledge, and majesty. The very existence of these vast heavens, with their celestial bodies and intricate systems, and this earth with its mountains, seas, and all living creatures, is a living testimony that there is a Great Creator who brought them into being from nothing.
The creation was not a random act or a purposeless event. It was established upon truth, meaning that everything in this universe has a purpose, a measure, and a wisdom behind it. The heavens and the earth are like an open book, inviting every thoughtful soul to read the signs of their Maker and to recognize that He alone deserves worship, obedience, and devotion.
Then Allah declares His own transcendence: "Exalted is He above what they associate with Him." He is far removed, gloriously elevated, and completely free from any deficiency or imperfection. He is beyond any comparison to His creation, and He is absolutely pure from the false claims of those who set up partners beside Him — whether they be idols, celestial bodies, prophets, saints, or any other created being. How could the Creator be compared to the created? How could the One who brought everything into existence be equated with those who themselves are in need of His existence?
This verse is a call to reflect: when you look at the sky above you and the earth beneath you, let your heart be filled with awe for the One who created them. Let your mind conclude what your fitrah (innate nature) already knows — that this magnificent universe cannot be the work of multiple gods or blind chance. It is the work of One God, All-Wise, All-Powerful, and He alone is worthy of your love, your fear, and your worship.
So, dear reader, open your eyes to the signs around you. Every sunrise and sunset, every star that glimmers in the night sky, every mountain that stands firm, and every ocean that waves — all of them are calling you to their Creator. They are not calling you to themselves, but to the One who made them. Do not let your heart be attached to the creation while neglecting the Creator. For He is the One who gave you life, who sustains you, and who will return you to Him. Exalted is He, far above any partner or equal, and to Him alone belongs all praise and worship.
