Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • يَخَافُونَ (they fear): They hold in awe and reverence, with a sense of profound respect and obedience.
  • مِن فَوْقِهِمْ (from above them): Referring to Allah’s supreme elevation and authority over all creation—His highness in essence, power, and dominion.
  • يُؤْمَرُونَ (they are commanded): Whatever Allah orders them to do.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse describes the angels—those noble and obedient beings who are constantly engaged in worship and devotion. Despite their immense power and closeness to Allah, they are filled with awe and fear of their Lord, who is exalted above them in His essence, His might, and His complete sovereignty. Nothing escapes His knowledge or power, and no one can overcome His will. Their fear is not a fear of punishment alone, but a reverential awe that drives them to perfect submission. They do not hesitate, question, or delay; they simply carry out whatever command they receive from their Lord, whether it involves managing the affairs of the universe, delivering revelation, or recording deeds. This verse also affirms the attribute of Allah’s highness and elevation above His creation—a perfection that befits His majesty and glory, without any resemblance to His creatures.

Da‘wah Reflection:

If the angels—who are sinless, ever-worshipping, and utterly devoted—still fear their Lord and hasten to obey Him, then how much more should we, as human beings with our weaknesses and shortcomings, strive to submit to Allah with humility and sincerity? This verse invites us to reflect on the greatness of Allah, who is above all things, and to cultivate in our hearts a loving fear of Him—a fear that motivates us to do good, avoid evil, and obey His commands with joy and dedication. Let this be a reminder that true success lies in aligning our will with His, just as the angels do, and in turning to Him with repentance and trust, for He is ever merciful and ready to accept those who return to Him.

📜 Verse 48-52 — An-Nahl

Have they not considered what things Allah has created? Their shadows incline to the right and to the left, prostrating to Allah, while they are humble.
And to Allah prostrates whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth of creatures, and the angels [as well], and they are not arrogant.
They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded.
And Allah has said, "Do not take for yourselves two deities. He is but one God, so fear only Me."
And to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and to Him is [due] worship constantly. Then is it other than Allah that you fear?
