Explanation of the Verse:
If Allah were to seize people immediately for their wrongdoing—their disbelief, sins, and false accusations against Him—He would not leave a single moving creature on the face of the earth. Such is the magnitude of human transgression that the entire creation would be destroyed as a consequence. Yet, out of His infinite mercy, forbearance, and wisdom, Allah does not hasten the punishment. Instead, He grants people respite until an appointed term that He has decreed for each soul. This delay is not a sign of neglect but a divine opportunity for repentance and reform.
When that fixed term arrives—whether for an individual or for humanity at large—no one can postpone it even for a single moment, nor can anyone bring it forward. The decree of Allah is precise and irrevocable. This teaches us that Allah's justice is perfect: He neither punishes unjustly nor delays beyond what His wisdom requires. Every soul will face its appointed hour, and no power in the universe can alter that divine schedule.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse is a profound reminder of Allah's boundless mercy and His perfect justice. Imagine the Creator of the heavens and the earth, who witnesses every sin and every act of oppression, yet chooses to give us time—time to turn back to Him, time to seek forgiveness, time to mend our ways. This is not weakness; it is patience born of wisdom and love for His creation. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Allah continues to extend His hand at night for those who sinned during the day to repent, and extends His hand during the day for those who sinned at night, until the sun rises from the west" (Sahih Muslim).
So do not be deceived by the delay of punishment, nor despair of Allah's mercy. The door of repentance is wide open, but it will not remain open forever. When the appointed term comes, there will be no negotiation, no extension, no second chance. Seize this precious moment of life to return to your Lord, to purify your heart, and to live in obedience to Him. The One who gives you time today is the One who will hold you accountable tomorrow—but He is also the One who loves to forgive. Do not let His patience make you forget His justice, and do not let His justice make you despair of His mercy. Balance your life between hope and fear, and let every breath be a step toward His pleasure.
