Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger, present to your people who reject the truth a vivid parable of two men from bygone nations — one a believer, the other a disbeliever. We granted the disbeliever two magnificent gardens filled with grapevines, and We encircled both gardens with tall, fruitful palm trees that stood as a protective and beautiful border. Between these two gardens, We caused fertile farmland to grow, producing abundant crops of various kinds that sustained their owner.
This imagery is not merely a story; it is a living lesson. The gardens represent the fleeting allure of worldly wealth and comfort that some people are given as a test, not as a sign of divine favor. The believer, in contrast, is not defined by material possessions but by his faith and gratitude to his Lord. The parable invites every soul to reflect: Do we measure success by what we own, or by how we use what we are given in obedience to Allah?
Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and look at the world around you. How many people have been blessed with gardens of wealth, health, and status — yet their hearts remain empty of gratitude and remembrance of their Creator? And how many believers, with far less, radiate contentment and peace because they know that true provision is not in what fills the hands, but in what fills the heart with faith?
This parable is a gentle call from your Lord: Do not be deceived by the glitter of this world, for it is temporary and will wither like a vine without water. Instead, invest in what remains forever — your relationship with Allah, your good deeds, and your compassion for others. The One who created these gardens, the palms, and the crops is the same One who provides for you, hears your prayers, and knows your struggles. Turn to Him, thank Him, and you will find that the greatest garden of all is the one He has prepared for His righteous servants — a garden that never fades and a joy that never ends.
