Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- نُسَيِّرُ الْجِبَالَ (nusayyiru al-jibal): We will set the mountains in motion, removing them from their places and causing them to move like clouds.
- بَارِزَةً (barizah): Apparent, visible, and open—with nothing on it to cover or conceal it, such as mountains, trees, or buildings.
- حَشَرْنَاهُمْ (hasharnahum): We will gather them—all of creation, the first and the last—for the standing of judgment.
- نُغَادِرْ (nughadir): We will leave behind or omit.
The Interpretation:
On that momentous Day, Allah will command the mountains to be lifted from their firm foundations and set in motion, drifting like clouds across the sky until they are utterly dispersed and turned to dust. When you look at the earth, you will see it completely bare and level—stripped of every mountain, tree, building, or any feature that once adorned it. Nothing will remain to provide shade or shelter; the entire surface will be laid open and exposed before the eyes of all.
Then, Allah will gather every single human being—from the first of creation to the last—to the plain of reckoning. He will resurrect them all from their graves, and not a single soul will be left behind or forgotten. Every individual, whether believer or disbeliever, righteous or sinful, will be brought forth to stand before their Lord for the ultimate account.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder of the certainty of the Hereafter and the absolute power of Allah over all creation. The mountains that seem so firm and immovable will be reduced to nothing in an instant, and the earth that we know so well will become a barren, open plain. No one will escape this gathering—every soul will be held accountable for what it did in this life.
Dear reader, let this vivid imagery awaken your heart. If the mountains—those colossal, unshakable structures—can be moved and leveled by a single command from Allah, then how can we, in our weakness, afford to neglect His call? The Day is coming when all will be gathered, and no excuse, no wealth, no status will exempt anyone. Let us prepare for that Day while we still have time, by turning to Allah in sincere repentance, performing good deeds, and living our lives in obedience to His guidance. For on that Day, the only thing that will benefit us is our faith and righteous actions.
