Explanation of the Verse:
After the angel Gabriel (Jibrīl) — peace be upon him — breathed into the opening of her garment, and by the will and power of Allah, that breath reached her womb, Maryam (Mary) — peace be upon her — conceived the child Jesus (ʿĪsā) — peace be upon him — without any human intervention. This was a miraculous conception, a sign of Allah’s absolute power over all things.
When the reality of her pregnancy became clear to her, she withdrew with her unborn child to a distant, secluded place, far away from her people and their dwellings. She chose this isolation to protect herself from the accusations, gossip, and harsh judgments that she knew would come from her community, who would not understand the divine nature of what had occurred. She sought solitude to escape their reproach and to preserve her dignity and devotion to Allah in this time of trial.
This verse highlights the profound faith and trust of Maryam — peace be upon her — in Allah. Despite facing an unimaginable situation that would test anyone’s patience, she did not panic or despair. Instead, she turned away from the noise of society and sought refuge in a quiet place, preparing herself for what Allah had decreed. Her actions teach us that in times of hardship, confusion, or fear of people’s judgment, the believer should turn to Allah, seek solitude for reflection, and place complete reliance on Him, knowing that He is the One who eases every difficulty and guides every step.
This story is a powerful reminder of Allah’s ability to bring about miracles beyond human comprehension, and it calls upon us to strengthen our faith, trust in Allah’s plan, and remain patient and steadfast even when the world around us misunderstands us. Indeed, in every trial lies a hidden mercy, and in every hardship, a path to closeness with Allah.
