Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Bashiran (بَشِيرًا): A bearer of glad tidings, one who gives good news.
- Nadheeran (نَذِيرًا): A warner, one who cautions against impending danger.
- As-hab al-Jaheem (أَصْحَابِ الْجَحِيمِ): The companions of the Blazing Fire — i.e., those destined for Hell due to their persistent disbelief. "Jaheem" refers to the most intense and severe part of the Fire.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Allah has sent you with the absolute truth — the religion of Islam, supported by clear proofs, decisive evidences, and miraculous signs. Your mission is twofold: to give glad tidings to the believers of the immense reward in this life and the Hereafter, and to warn those who persist in denial of the severe punishment that awaits them.
Your responsibility, however, ends at delivering the message with clarity and sincerity. You are not accountable for the choices people make after hearing the truth. If they reject your call and remain upon disbelief, they will enter the Fire on the Day of Judgment and will never leave it. Allah will not ask you about them, nor will you be held responsible for their unbelief — for guidance is in Allah's Hands alone, and your duty is only to convey.
This verse brings immense comfort to the heart of every caller to Allah: the outcome of people's faith is not your burden. You plant the seed, water it with wisdom and beautiful preaching, but it is Allah who causes it to grow. So do not grieve over those who turn away, and do not let their rejection weigh upon your soul — for you have fulfilled your trust, and your reward is with your Lord.
A Call to Reflection:
How beautiful is this divine reassurance! The Prophet (peace be upon him) — the most beloved of creation to Allah — was told not to worry about those who chose the Fire. This teaches us that our duty is to invite with kindness, patience, and wisdom, and then to leave the results to Allah. Let this inspire you, dear reader, to share the message of Islam with confidence and peace of heart, knowing that your sincerity is what matters most. And to those who hear the call: do not let this truth pass you by. The door of repentance is open, and the mercy of Allah is vast — so hasten to Him before the Fire becomes your abode, and instead let Paradise be your eternal home.
