- Al-Hikmah (الْحِكْمَة): Wisdom, meaning the Sunnah (the Prophet's teachings and way of life), and the profound understanding of the religion.

Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse is part of the supplication of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham, peace be upon him) and his son Prophet Isma'il (Ishmael, peace be upon him) after they raised the foundations of the Ka'bah. In this heartfelt prayer, they ask Allah to raise from among their descendants—specifically from the nation of Isma'il—a Messenger who would be one of them, not a stranger. This Messenger, who is Muhammad (peace be upon him), would have four noble tasks:
- Reciting Allah's verses to the people, delivering the divine revelation of the Qur'an in its pure, unaltered form.
- Teaching them the Book, which is the Qur'an itself, explaining its meanings, laws, and guidance.
- Teaching them wisdom, which includes the Sunnah of the Prophet—his sayings, actions, and approvals—as well as the deep understanding of the religion and its noble objectives.
- Purifying them, meaning cleansing their hearts from the filth of polytheism, hypocrisy, and immoral character, and elevating them to the highest standards of faith and conduct.
The supplication concludes with the acknowledgment of Allah's perfect attributes: "Indeed, You are the Almighty, the Wise." The Almighty (Al-Aziz) is the One whose power nothing can resist, and the Wise (Al-Hakim) is the One who places everything in its proper position, with perfect knowledge and justice.
This prayer was answered when Allah sent Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the final Messenger to humanity. Through him, Allah completed the religion, purified the hearts of the believers, and transformed a nation of ignorance into the best community ever raised for mankind.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse beautifully demonstrates the profound love and concern of Prophet Ibrahim for his descendants—he did not merely ask for worldly blessings, but for the greatest gift of all: a Messenger who would guide them to Allah, teach them the truth, and purify their souls. This teaches us that the most valuable inheritance we can leave for our children and communities is not wealth or status, but the knowledge of the Qur'an, the wisdom of the Sunnah, and the purity of a righteous heart.
When we recite this verse, we are reminded of the immense mercy of Allah, who answered this supplication by sending the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a mercy to all worlds. It also inspires us to follow that Messenger, to learn the Book and wisdom, and to strive for purification of our own souls—because this is the path to true success in this life and the Hereafter. Let this verse ignite in you a love for the Qur'an and the Sunnah, and a sincere desire to purify your heart, for that is the legacy of the Prophets and the key to eternal happiness.
