- Min baʿdi dhālika (مِن بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ): After that great sin — namely, the worship of the calf.

Explanation of the Verse:
After the Children of Israel committed the grave sin of worshipping the golden calf while Prophet Musa (Moses) was away on Mount Sinai, they fell into a state of immense guilt and spiritual ruin. Yet, in His infinite mercy, Allah did not leave them in that darkness. He accepted their sincere repentance and completely pardoned them, erasing the stain of that dreadful deed from their record. This divine forgiveness was not because they deserved it, but purely out of Allah’s grace and compassion.
The verse highlights a profound truth: Allah’s mercy precedes His wrath, and His door of repentance is always open — no matter how great the sin. The Children of Israel had committed an act of sheer ingratitude and disbelief, yet when they turned back to Him with humility, He welcomed them and forgave them entirely. This was a lesson for them and for all generations to come: that no sin is too great to be forgiven if one sincerely repents.
The purpose of this forgiveness was not merely to absolve them, but to awaken in their hearts a deep sense of gratitude. Gratitude here means more than just saying "thank you" — it means using every blessing Allah gives in obedience to Him, and never using His favours to commit sins. True thankfulness is when a person recognises Allah’s kindness and responds with love, humility, and unwavering devotion.
This verse is a beautiful reminder for every believer today. Whenever we slip into sin, no matter how heavy the burden of guilt, we must remember that Allah’s mercy is vast beyond measure. He is waiting for us to turn back to Him. The moment we sincerely repent, He wipes away our sins and replaces them with light. So never despair of Allah’s mercy — for He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful, and His love for those who return to Him is greater than we can ever imagine.
Let this verse inspire you to always keep a soft heart, to never lose hope in Allah’s forgiveness, and to live a life of gratitude — thanking Him with every action, every word, and every breath. For the one who is grateful, Allah increases His blessings; and the one who repents, Allah transforms his sins into good deeds. What a generous Lord we have!
