Explanation of the Verse:
This verse continues the beautiful recounting of Allah's favors upon His Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), reminding him of the divine care that surrounded him from his very infancy. When the basket carrying baby Moses was cast into the river, his sister walked along the shore, following it from a distance to see what would become of him. When the household of Pharaoh retrieved the basket and found a baby who refused to accept any wet nurse, his sister stepped forward and said: "Shall I direct you to someone who can nurse and care for him?" — and that someone was his own mother. Thus, Allah returned Moses to his mother's arms, so that her eyes would be comforted by seeing her son safe and sound, and so that she would not grieve over his loss. This was a profound mercy — the very woman who had to cast her child into the river was reunited with him, and even received payment for nursing her own son.
Then Allah reminds Moses of another favor: he had killed a man (a Coptic Egyptian) by accident, in an attempt to defend one of his own people. This act filled him with deep remorse and fear of punishment. But Allah saved him from that distress — both the guilt of the deed and the threat of retaliation from Pharaoh's court — and then tested him with successive trials: fleeing Egypt, living as a stranger, and spending many years in Midian among the people of the righteous Prophet Shu'ayb (peace be upon him). Finally, after all those years, Moses came back at the precise time Allah had decreed — not a moment too early or too late — to receive the honor of direct conversation with Allah and the mission of prophethood. The verse ends with the affectionate address: "O Moses" — a call filled with divine love and closeness.
Da'wah Reflection:
This verse is a living testament to the fact that Allah's plan for His righteous servants is always perfect, even when the path seems frightening or uncertain. A mother had to let go of her baby; a young man had to flee his homeland; years passed in obscurity — yet every single step was part of a divine arrangement leading to greatness. For us today, this is a powerful reminder: when you face trials, when life takes unexpected turns, when doors seem to close — know that Allah is weaving a plan far more beautiful than you can imagine. Trust Him, obey Him, and never lose hope. The same Allah who reunited a mother with her child, who saved a fugitive from his past, and who elevated a shepherd from Midian to the rank of a prophet — that Allah is your Lord too. He says in the Qur'an: "And whoever relies upon Allah — then He is sufficient for him" (65:3). So hold fast to your connection with Him, and let the story of Moses fill your heart with certainty that after every difficulty comes ease, and after every night of trial comes the dawn of divine mercy.
