Word Meanings:

  • Qabadnāhu (قَبَضْنَاهُ): We seized, withdrew, or took it back.
  • Qabḍan (قَبْضًا): A withdrawal, contraction, or taking away.
  • Yasīran (يَسِيرًا): Gradual, gentle, easy, or little by little.

Explanation of the Verse:

Reflect, O believer, on the magnificent sign of Allah in the natural world around you. Have you not observed how the shade extends across the earth from the break of dawn until the sun rises? This shade is a mercy from your Lord, a blessing that softens the heat and provides comfort. Then, when the sun climbs higher in the sky, Allah withdraws that shade back to Himself—not all at once, but gently, gradually, inch by inch, moment by moment. As the sun rises, the shadow shortens, and as it sets, the shadow lengthens again, all in perfect measure and divine wisdom.

This gradual withdrawal is a profound demonstration of Allah's absolute power and meticulous design. Had He willed, He could have made the shade permanent and unchanging, or He could have removed it in an instant. Instead, He chose to make it diminish slowly, so that His servants might witness the unfolding of His decree in every passing moment. The sun, which causes the shade to recede, is itself a sign pointing to the greatness of its Creator. And the shade, which appears and then disappears, reminds you that all things in this world are transient—only Allah endures.

This verse calls you to look beyond the surface of everyday phenomena. The lengthening and shortening of shadows, the rising and setting of the sun—these are not random events. They are the living, breathing signs of a Creator who manages the universe with perfect wisdom. Every shadow that moves across the earth is a silent witness to His power, and every ray of sunlight is a reminder of His mercy. So let your heart be filled with awe, and let your tongue be busy with gratitude. For the One who controls the shade and the sun is the One who deserves your worship alone—no partner, no rival, no equal.

📜 Verse 44-48 — Al-Furqan

Or do you think that most of them hear or reason? They are not except like livestock. Rather, they are [even] more astray in [their] way.
Have you not considered your Lord - how He extends the shadow, and if He willed, He could have made it stationary? Then We made the sun for it an indication.
Then We hold it in hand for a brief grasp.
And it is He who has made the night for you as clothing and sleep [a means for] rest and has made the day a resurrection.
And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy, and We send down from the sky pure water
