Surah Al-Furqan — Verse 45

Have you not reflected, dear reader, upon the magnificent handiwork of your Lord? Had your Lord willed, He could have made that shade permanent and stationary — a fixed canopy that never moves, never shortens, never changes. But He did not. Instead, He created the sun as a guide and evidence of the shade, for it is through the sun’s movement that the shade lengthens and contracts, appearing and receding in a perfect rhythm. The sun reveals the shade’s existence and its benefits; without light, darkness would be unknown, and without the sun, the shade would have no meaning. Thus, things are known by their opposites, and the greatness of Allah’s creation is displayed in this delicate balance.
