Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Ghayb (الْغَيْبَ): The unseen, the hidden, the knowledge of which is exclusively reserved for Allah—matters of the past, present, and future that lie beyond human perception.
- Yash'urūn (يَشْعُرُونَ): They perceive, sense, or have any awareness.
- Ayyāna (أَيَّانَ): When—a word used to ask about a specific time.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Messenger, say to those who question you about the mysteries of the universe and the timing of the Hour: No being in the heavens—whether angel or any other creation—nor any being on earth—whether human or jinn—has knowledge of the unseen except Allah alone. He is the Sole Possessor of all hidden knowledge, and He reveals from it only what He wills to whom He wills.
As for the exact moment of the Resurrection, when all creatures will be raised from their graves for judgment, not a single soul has even the faintest awareness of when it will occur. This knowledge is sealed within Allah's infinite wisdom, hidden from all creation. The disbelievers who mockingly ask about this time are utterly oblivious to it, and when that Day arrives, their perception will become complete—they will witness the horrors of the Hereafter with their own eyes, and their certainty will be absolute. Yet on that Day, their realization will be of no avail, for in the worldly life they had doubted and their inner visions were blinded to the truth.
A Call to Reflection:
This verse invites every soul to stand in awe of Allah's exclusive knowledge. If the angels, who are honored servants of the Most Merciful, and all of humanity, despite their intellect and advancement, cannot grasp the timing of the Hour, how can anyone claim to possess knowledge of the unseen? This should lead you, dear reader, to humility and submission. The One who holds the keys of the unseen is the One who created you, sustains you, and will resurrect you. So turn to Him with sincerity, for He has not left you without guidance—He has sent His messengers and revealed His books to show you the path to eternal success. The Hour will come, that is certain, and your preparation for it is the wisest investment you can ever make. Do not be among those whose hearts are heedless, but be among those who live with awareness, knowing that every deed is recorded and every soul shall meet its Lord.
