📖 English Meaning
And let not those who disbelieve ever think that [because] We extend their time [of enjoyment] it is better for them. We only extend it for them so that they may increase in sin, and for them is a humiliating punishment.

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Tumlee (نُمْلِي): To give respite, to delay, to prolong a period of time.
  • Khayr (خَيْرٌ): Goodness, benefit, or advantage.
  • Ithman (إِثْمًا): Sin, transgression, or wrongdoing.
  • Muheen (مُهِينٌ): Humiliating, disgraceful, or that which brings about dishonor and degradation.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse carries a profound and sobering message for those who reject faith and persist in disbelief. Allah, the Most High, warns the disbelievers not to be deceived by the apparent ease and comfort they enjoy in this worldly life. When they see their wealth increasing, their health remaining strong, and their lives being prolonged, they might mistakenly believe that this is a sign of Allah’s pleasure or that it is inherently good for them. Allah corrects this misconception decisively: this respite is not a reward, nor is it a mark of honor. Rather, it is a divine scheme of gradual justice.

Allah clarifies that He grants them this extended time and worldly enjoyment not out of kindness, but as a means of allowing them to increase in sin and transgression. Every extra day they live, they accumulate more acts of disobedience, more rejection of the truth, and more arrogance against their Creator. This is not a blessing—it is a trap that deepens their accountability and worsens their final outcome. The verse concludes with a stern warning: for them, there awaits a humiliating and disgraceful punishment, one that will strip them of all pride and leave them in utter shame and degradation.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on the wisdom embedded in this verse. How often do we look at the material success of others and assume it signifies divine favor? This verse teaches us a deeper truth: that the measure of success in the sight of Allah is not wealth, longevity, or worldly comfort, but rather faith, obedience, and righteousness. The believer who is tested with hardship and remains patient is far better off than the disbeliever who is given everything yet remains heedless.

This is an invitation to examine your own life. If you find yourself blessed with time, health, and provision, ask yourself: are you using these blessings to draw closer to Allah, or are you drifting further away? Do not let the temporary pleasures of this world deceive you, for they are fleeting, while the Hereafter is eternal. Turn to your Lord today with sincere repentance, for His door is open, and His mercy is vast. He does not wish to humiliate His servants; rather, He delights in their return to Him. Seize this moment before it is too late, and let your life be a testimony of gratitude and obedience, not of heedlessness and sin.

📜 Verse 176-180 — Aal-Imran

And do not be grieved, [O Muhammad], by those who hasten into disbelief. Indeed, they will never harm Allah at all. Allah intends that He should give them no share in the Hereafter, and for them is a great punishment.
Indeed, those who purchase disbelief [in exchange] for faith - never will they harm Allah at all, and for them is a painful punishment.
And let not those who disbelieve ever think that [because] We extend their time [of enjoyment] it is better for them. We only extend it for them so that they may increase in sin, and for them is a humiliating punishment.
Allah would not leave the believers in that [state] you are in [presently] until He separates the evil from the good. Nor would Allah reveal to you the unseen. But [instead], Allah chooses of His messengers whom He wills, so believe in Allah and His messengers. And if you believe and fear Him, then for you is a great reward.
And let not those who [greedily] withhold what Allah has given them of His bounty ever think that it is better for them. Rather, it is worse for them. Their necks will be encircled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection. And to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth. And Allah, with what you do, is [fully] Acquainted.
